Demolition marks the starts the work on ‘emerge’ a regeneration development and the end to Linden’s Homes and DCH work in the Devonport Development Framework.
Emerge which will take part this year will be developing the Granby Green and Granby Street in the Devonport area. The demolition will include post war buildings and the recreation of new homes in a refreshed surrounding.
This development will come to an end of Linden’s Homes and DCH development of ‘emerge’, a year after the development of ‘evolve’ who have delivered 219 new houses, 90 of which are affordable.
The ‘emerge’ refurbishment will establish a new balance and sustainable part of the community within the Devonport area.
Representatives were present for the start of the project from Linden Homes, DCH, Plymouth City Council, Plymouth Community Homes and LHC.
Nigel Palmer, the managing director from Linden Homes spoke of his excitment on the first day of the restoration process.
“It is a landmark day in terms of regeneration in Devonport. Emerge will breathe new life into the Granby Street area; providing 101 quality new one, two, three and four bedroom homes for the Devonport community, 36% of which will be affordable housing.
“We have received a lot of positive feedback; so many people are delighted the derelict buildings are going for good – the transformation is going to be fantastic.”
Tony Franklin the Business Director Commercial Manager of DCH expressed his delight of the regeneration development at Devonport.
“The new development will introduce a more balanced mix of accommodation to meet a wider range of housing needs.
“The Devonport regeneration project has successfully sought to re-establish confidence and pride in the area by placing the community at the centre of the change to plan for the future.”
Devonport ward Councillor Bill Stevens, who is also chair of Plymouth City Council’s Planning Committee was pleased of the development getting underway.
“We are delighted that work is able to start on redeveloping this brownfield site and getting rid of outdated buildings providing modern, fit-for purpose homes for people in Plymouth.”
