Plymouth City Council’s Sports Development Unit (SDU), worked in partnership with Everyone Active, Plymouth Raiders Basketball Club, Plymouth Argyle Football Club and TGS coaching to develop and deliver a number of sporting opportunities in Devonport for young people this summer.
Devonport Community Leisure Ltd – a community organisation that works for the benefit of Devonport provided financial support for the activities.
Dave Brown, Chair of DCLL said: “It is great that so many young people from Devonport were able to take part in the activities provided over the summer. Devonport has such great facilities including the leisure centre and the pools and we are always seeking to increase participation and encourage new users.”
The activities are listed below:
Multi-Sports holiday camp
The SDU organised five one-day camps every Friday (August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29) during the holidays. These sessions were delivered by TGS coaching. Children from Devonport were able to access these activities at a reduced cost of £3 per day, or £1 per morning or afternoon.
In total 110 different children from across Plymouth took part in these sessions, which saw an average of 45 children attend each day, of which 45% were from the Devonport area.
The SDU supported Pembroke Street Youth Club to organise nine centre-based activity days and three family trips to Woodlands, Exmouth and Paignton. In total 30 young people from Devonport took part.
